It is with a tremendous sense of hope that we approach you for financial support of our 2012 Charity Event: Celebrate Giving – Fashion in the City! This ultimate fashion show & cocktail party will be held on March 1st, 2012 at the London Convention Centre. Proceeds from the evening will support Merrymount Children’s Centre. Founded more than 135 years ago as the “Protestant Home for Orphans, Aged and Friendless,” Merrymount has evolved with the needs of the society around it. From long-term residential care for children, the focus has changed to helping families stay together and grow strong. Today, Merrymount is the only centre of its kind in Canada providing integrated programming for families in crisis or transition. They support more than 7,000 families each year, provide 24 hour continuous overnight short term care for children, and are a fully accredited Children’s Mental Health Centre.
Many of the families Merrymount serves are dealing with the challenge of poverty. But any family can experience crisis and need help. Most of their programs are open to anyone who needs them. The people they serve at Merrymount often don’t have anyone to turn to. Their families aren’t willing or able to step in to help. When their lives are turned upside down, they need to know that their children will be in a safe place, cared for by loving and skilled people. They need non-judgmental support. Funds raised by this BMW Event will be directed to Merrymount’s Crisis Residential/Respite Program. Merrymount has 18 soft beds that sleep over 1900 children every year in this program. Just one of their beds comforts 104 children and their families every year – one dream at a time.
